Fran Simpson and Ann Shepherd are the site coordinators for Hanford-Dole's Communities in Schools of Rowan Program. 

During the school year, the CIS office hours are 7:30--3:30.
Contact can be made by email or phone. 

The following are some of the programs CIS helps to coordinate:
         *School uniforms and school supplies
         *Food for Thought--weekly food backpacks
         *Volunteer Program--line up students with tutors and/or mentors
         *Book Club for First Grade with guest readers
         *Monthly Good Citizen awards

Helping Your Child with Homework---Tips for Parents

You can do many things at home to show your child that you value education and homework, such as:

  • Set a regular time and place for homework.
  • Remove distractions.
  • Provide supplies and identify resources.
  • Be interested in what your child is learning.

Hanford-Dole has recognized the following students who have achieved IRead 80 by April 23rd.  Each student had a "High Achievement Reading Yard Sign" placed in his/her yard by the school staff.  Hanford-Dole Elementary has recognized the following students as May Good Citizens for the character trait of Respect. Each student received a personalized certificate and had his or her picture on the Good Citizen board for the month.  Kaye Hirst, former director of the Rowan Museum, was the guest reader at Hanford-Dole's quarterly First Grade Book Club.  Mrs. Hirst read the book, "Giraffes Can't Dance" to all the first-grade students.
